After being thickened and digested, the sludge still has a water content of 95%~97%, and the volume is still large. Sludge dewatering can further remove the interstitial water and capillary water in the sludge and reduce its volume. After dehydration, the water content of sludge can be reduced to 70%~80%, and its volume is 1/10~1/4 of the original volume, which is conducive to subsequent transportation and treatment. The mechanical dewatering methods of sludge include filtration dewatering, centrifugal dewatering and press dewatering. The filtration dewatering includes vacuum filtration and pressure filtration; Centrifuge is used for dehydration; Press type dewatering is to use screw press or roller press for dewatering. Pressure filtration and centrifugal dewatering are commonly used. Sludge filtration dehydration is driven by the pressure difference between the two sides of the filter medium, so that the sludge water is forced to pass through the filter medium to form filtrate, while solid particles are trapped on the medium to form filter cake, so as to achieve the purpose of sludge dehydration. Plate and frame filter press is the first machinery used in chemical dehydration. Although the plate and frame filter press is generally operated intermittently, with large investment in infrastructure and low filtering capacity, it is still widely used in some small sewage plants due to its advantages such as large filtering driving force, high solid content of filter cake, clear filtrate, high solid recovery rate, and high consumption of conditioning drugs.
